Beauchamp

Charred Remains - A rear addition to a federation era home. The intent was to leave the original hip roof along with the original rooms beneath intact. The rear addition accommodates the open plan living space at ground level with bedrooms and bathrooms on the first floor. The entire rear of the house opens to the rear yard, under a deep overhang from the first floor. The rear of the first floor is occupied by the master bedroom and ensuite which capture district views. The original brief wanted the "box" to be an expressed recycled timber frame with infill panelling. Preliminary costing showed that design changes were needed to meet budget, so the echarcoal matchbox was the result of the design evolution.
